Day 4: Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal and back (Trek – 10 km round trip / 6–7 hours)

Altitude: Kedar Tal – 15,485 ft

Day 5: Kedar Kharak to Gangotri (Trek – 12 km / 6–7 hours)

Altitude: Descend to 10,055 ft

Day 6: Gangotri to Dehradun (Drive – 240 km / 8–10 hours)

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri (Drive – 240 km / 8–10 hours)

  • Altitude: 10,055 ft
  • Stay: Guesthouse / Hotel
  • Meals: Dinner
  • Highlights: Scenic drive through Mussoorie, Uttarkashi, and along the Bhagirathi River. Enroute views of Tehri Dam, lush pine forests, and picturesque valleys.
  • Note: Acclimatization begins from here. Evening visit to the sacred Gangotri temple.

 

Day 2: Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak (Trek – 8 km / 5–6 hours)

  • Altitude: 12,400 ft
  • Stay: Campsite
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Trail Features: The trek starts with a moderate ascent. Trail passes through dense Bhojpatra (Birch) forests and scenic ridges alongside the Kedar Ganga river – considered the gift of Lord Shiva to Bhagirathi.
  • Highlights: First views of snow-capped peaks and camping amidst alpine wilderness.

 

Day 3: Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak (Trek – 4 km / 4–5 hours)

  • Altitude: 14,200 ft
  • Stay: Campsite
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Trail Features: Gradual but challenging climb through rocky and high-altitude terrain.
  • Highlights: Breathtaking views of Bhrigupanth and Thalay Sagar peaks. Alpine meadows filled with wildflowers in season.
  • Note: Short trekking day for better acclimatization.

 

Day 4: Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal and back (Trek – 10 km round trip / 6–7 hours)

  • Altitude: Kedar Tal – 15,485 ft
  • Stay: Campsite at Kedar Kharak
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Trail Features: Steep and strenuous ascent over moraine and glacial paths.
  • Highlights: Kedar Tal – a stunning high-altitude glacial lake with emerald waters, nestled below the mighty Thalay Sagar, Bhrigupanth, and Jogin peaks. A sacred and surreal experience in the lap of the Himalayas.
  • Note: Start early for good weather and safe return.

 

Day 5: Kedar Kharak to Gangotri (Trek – 12 km / 6–7 hours)

  • Altitude: Descend to 10,055 ft
  • Stay: Guesthouse / Hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Trail Features: Full-day descent retracing steps through Bhoj Kharak to Gangotri.
  • Highlights: Soaking in final views of the majestic peaks and lush valleys.

 

Day 6: Gangotri to Dehradun (Drive – 240 km / 8–10 hours)

  • Meals: Breakfast
  • Highlights: Final road journey through the mountains with a heart full of memories and blessings from the divine Himalayas.
  • Trip Ends: At Dehradun by evening.
