Day 1: Arrival in Aru (2,426 m / 7,959 ft)

The Tarsar Marsar Trek is a poetic journey into the heart of Kashmir’s untouched beauty. Nestled deep within the Aru Valley, this trek takes you to two of the most stunning alpine lakes in India—Tarsar and Marsar. Encircled by snow-draped peaks, these sapphire lakes reflect the ever-changing hues of the sky and remain untouched by mainstream tourism.

Unlike the crowded trails, this route offers a peaceful retreat into nature, with open valleys, wildflowers, pine forests, and pristine campsites. The trek provides a magical blend of serenity and adventure—an unforgettable Himalayan experience in the “Paradise on Earth.”

Day 1: Arrival in Aru (2,426 m / 7,959 ft)

 

  • Drive from Srinagar to Aru (approx. 4-5 hrs).
  • Beautiful drive via Pahalgam and Lidder Valley.
  • Check-in to campsite/homestay.
  • Trek briefing and acclimatization walk in the evening.
  • Overnight stay in Aru.

 

Day 2: Aru to Lidderwat (2,780 m / 9,121 ft)

 

  • Trek distance: 10 km | 5-6 hrs
  • A gradual ascent through pine forests and scenic meadows.
  • Cross the Lidder River and pass Gujjar settlements.
  • Camp near the Lidder River under a starlit sky.
  • Overnight in tents at Lidderwat.

 

Day 3: Lidderwat to Shekwas (3,300 m / 10,827 ft)

 

  • Trek distance: 6.5 km | 5 hrs
  • Walk through blooming meadows, cascading streams, and boulder patches.
  • Witness horses and sheep grazing in high-altitude pastures.
  • Campsite offers spectacular views of surrounding mountains.
  • Overnight in tents at Shekwas.

 

Day 4: Shekwas to Tarsar Lake (3,795 m / 12,450 ft)

 

  • Trek distance: 5 km | 4 hrs
  • Steady ascent to the jewel of Kashmir – Tarsar Lake.
  • Reach by early afternoon, allowing time to explore and relax.
  • Camp near the lake with stunning sunset views.
  • Overnight camping by Tarsar Lake.

 

Day 5: Tarsar to Sundersar via Tarsar Pass (4,000 m / 13,123 ft)

 

  • Trek distance: 6 km | 5 hrs
  • Cross Tarsar Pass with panoramic views of both valleys.
  • Descend to the meadows of Sundersar – another alpine beauty.
  • Evening to explore the serene lake basin.
  • Overnight camping at Sundersar.   

 

Day 6: Visit Marsar Lake and return to Homwas (2,900 m / 9,514 ft)

 

  • Trek distance: 11 km | 7-8 hrs
  • Early morning hike to Marsar Lake viewpoint.
  • Marsar is often shrouded in mist, giving it a mystical appeal.
  • Descend back via Sundersar and retrace to Homwas.
  • Overnight stay at Homwas.

 

Day 7: Homwas to Aru & Drive to Srinagar

 

  • Trek distance: 13 km | 6 hrs
  • Final descent through Lidderwat and meadows.
  • Drive back to Srinagar by late afternoon.
  • Trek ends with unforgettable memories.
